About me

Hi everyone! I’ve recently walked a part of the Camino Frances and I would be more than happy to share with you some of the things I saw and thought on the way. What can I say about me? I love the sun, nature in every single season, the sea, Saturday mornings, movie nights, chocolate, lying on the grass, the smell of coffee, laughing, sharing, reading and doing all sorts of outdoor activities. That is why this blog is taken intensive care of in the cold months, when days are short and grumpy and the temptation to go out is not that strong. :)

One of the things I love the most, though, is travelling. However, I have always been slightly disappointed, and, to be honest, almost not interested in the popular tourist attractions a destination can offer, waiting in line to get a picture in front of a particular item or sometimes even to actually see it. I find the atmosphere of random streets, of small authentic places not described in guides, the local food, served in small unpretentious restaurants, the people, the lifestyle so much more fascinating.

Walking the Camino, I was given the opportunity to walk around Northern Spain as a pilgrim and not as a tourist, and I consider this a great privilege. I saw beautiful nature, lovely villages and funny dogs, met all sorts of people from all over the world, ate simple but so delicious food, tasted Spanish wine for the first time, challenged myself mentally and physically, had time to contemplate and splashed my feet in the cold ocean. And walked…a lot. :)

I would like to thank Vladimir and Alexander who were great fellow-pilgrims all the way and to wish all of you “Buen Camino”! :)

Thank you so much for reading!

    Hello Alene.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading your blog. I have just returned from walking the Camino de Frances. As it happens we also chose to start at Astorga. Well actually my friend did, he did all the planning. He did lots of research and found your blog. So reading it was in fact the ONLY research that I did! But it gave me a good idea of what it would be like. Your photos are great and give a good impression of what Pilgrims can expect along the way. And your writing is informative and interesting, yet a little whimsical, which made it fun to read.

Before we left my colleagues wanted us to make a blog for our school community (we are teachers.) So I am researching how to do it. I first looked again at yours. I notice that you say you worked on yours some time after you came back, which is what I am going to have to do (if I do it!) Can you offer any advice or suggestions?

    yours sincerely

Just to say I thoroughly enjoyed your blog. I am walking the same route in May 2016 and am really looking forward to it.

    Kind regards from the Netherlands.
